Idle Hands or Inspired Plans?

YAY! The semester is almost over, and we can finally see the light at what seemed to be a never-ending tunnel. So now that the summer break is almost here, my question for you is, “What are your plans for the break?”. You may be taking summer classes or starting a new and exciting internship. Or maybe you are just planning to take it easy and rest after a stressful school year.
Whatsoever your plans may or may not be, I highly suggest having a good one.

Why you ask? Well, have you ever heard the saying “An idol mind is the devil’s workshop”? That saying comes from Proverbs 16:27, which states, “Idle hands are the devil's workshop; idle lips are his mouthpiece” (TBL). This essentially means that when we are not productively using our minds and we allow ourselves to do nothing worthwhile, we can be inspired by the wrong spirit. This could cause us to drift into bad habits and situations that hinder our progress. So below I have prepared a list of a few activities that you can incorporate into your summer break plans that will both inspire you and keep your mind stimulated.
Networking – This would be a great time to look for networking opportunities that relate to your interests. You can do this is online or in-person.
· Online - If you have set up your LinkedIn or Handshake profiles, work towards making those meaningful connections with potential employers. Identify and reach out to possible alumni within the company to introduce yourself and ask about their experience working for the company.
· In-person – If you are looking to connect in-person, you can check out Eventbright and search for networking and volunteering opportunities in your area. You never know who you will meet. Also, another great networking event that occurs monthly is the Christian Business Women’s Network International’s brunch meet up (https://www.cbwnintl.org/events-2/). This is a perfect way to meet industry experts, and we would love to see you!
Reading – I am sure you can find several reading lists online, but I admonish you to read something that will be edifying to your mind, soul, and spirit. Below are a few of my suggestions. You won’t miss with any of these!
Author: Gary C. Price (All books can be found at www.rempublish.com)

Physical Activity – Now is the time to unplug, put down the phone (yes, I said it), and get outside for some fresh air. Physical exercise and just being outside is so essential to your overall health. So let’s make a goal to not let social media dominate our lives this summer. The best way to do this is to keep track of your screen time (your phone already does that) and limit your social media activity to no more than an hour a day.
Alright, so now that we have some edifying activities to keep ourselves on track, let’s make this summer matter! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Be blessed!
